On Friday 4 and Saturday 5 September 2026, our housekeeping team headed into Phuket Town for “Beyond Cleaning 2026 – From Housekeeping to Wellness Ambassador,” the 26th annual seminar of the Housekeeping Management Club Phuket and Andaman, held in the Grand Ballroom of the Royal Phuket City Hotel.
A Bigger Job Than Making Beds
The two-day programme was built around one idea: a housekeeper doesn't simply clean a room, they prepare a space where a guest can properly rest and recover. One slide put it plainly — a hotel is, in the end, selling sleep. Pools, restaurants and spas all matter, but if a guest sleeps badly, the whole stay gets remembered badly. Sessions on the Neuroscience of Hospitality, the Science of Happiness, and the Future of Wellness Tourism looked at why guests remember how a room made them feel far more than what was in it.
Sleep Well, Clean Well, Breathe Well, Care Well
Both days returned to four practical themes for the modern guestroom: Sleep Well, on smart textiles and sleep quality; Clean Well, on green cleaning science that disinfects without harsh chemicals; Breathe Well, on air quality and the equipment that keeps a room genuinely fresh; and Care Well, on choosing bathroom amenities that are kinder to skin and to the environment. Alongside these sat The Invisible Luxury — the argument that today's luxury is usually something a guest feels rather than something they can see.
Green Hospitality, ESG and 70+ Suppliers
Saturday morning turned to Green Hospitality and ESG, and how energy reduction, sustainable sourcing and good governance connect to everyday housekeeping decisions — much the same thinking behind our own sustainability programme. That carried straight into the exhibition hall, where more than 70 suppliers showed products for hotel operations: enzyme and microorganism-based cleaners that handle wastewater and odour without harsh chemistry, sustainable laundry services, hotel linens and bedding, and floor-care equipment. A genuinely useful couple of hours for anyone deciding what actually goes onto the trolley each morning.
What We're Taking Back to Kamala
Between the talks there were Mission WOW Experience workshops in small circles, coffee-break networking with housekeepers from properties across Phuket and the Andaman coast, and a supplier lucky draw to close each day. What our team is bringing home is less a checklist than a shift in how we look at a room: a guest isn't buying a clean surface, they're buying rest. That is a standard our housekeeping team already works to, and two days of practical science behind it makes it easier to keep raising.
