On Thursday, 21 May 2026, the Glam Habitat team joined "Thailand Green Premium Spark 2026: The Navigator - Turning Green Into Experience," a nationwide seminar hosted by Thailand's Department of Tourism (DOT) under its "Steps to Sustainability" program. The session ran online via Zoom, and we followed the day's presentations as a group alongside fellow hospitality professionals gathered together in a hotel conference room in Phuket.
As a small, independently run hotel in Kamala Beach, we don't have an in-house team of sustainability researchers. Sessions like this give us a chance to hear directly from people working on the standards and ideas shaping Thailand's tourism sector, and to bring that thinking back into how we run Glam Habitat.
Crafting a Genuine Green Story
One of the day's sessions introduced the idea of a "Green Journey": the concept of sustainable, low-carbon travel and living that keeps a healthy balance between community, economy, and environment. Rather than treating sustainability as a single initiative, the framing was of an ongoing way of doing business, one that shows up consistently rather than only during a campaign.
Avoiding Greenwashing
Another session took a candid look at what not to do, cautioning against common pitfalls such as using the word "sustainable" without real follow-through, running one-off CSR activities without a long-term plan, copying trends without a genuine identity, or over-communicating results. The message was clear: today's travellers are increasingly able to verify claims for themselves, and authenticity, not polish, is what builds lasting trust.
Environmental Management and Community Participation
A further session looked at environmentally friendly management practices and meaningful participation with the local community, covering topics like environmental risk prevention, workplace safety readiness, and ways a hotel can support the community around it, from responsible sourcing to shared benefits with nearby suppliers.
